Storrs, Conn. - The American International College ice hockey team fell 4-2 to the Connecticut Huskies Friday evening in an AHA match-up in Storrs, Connecticut.
Mike Field (Marquette, Mich.) and
Chris Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.) scored goals for the Yellow Jackets, who dropped to 8-19-4 overall and 8-15-2 in conference action. The win propels the Huskies to 9-19-2 overall and 8-14-3 in AHA play.
AIC led 2-1 after the first period, but UConn rallied for three unanswered goals in the third and final period to record the win.
Huskies' forward Matt Turner posted the game's first score at the 4:58 marker in the first stanza, beating AIC goalie
Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.), who made 28 saves on the night. Although AIC scored twice in the first, they were outshot 16-8 in the opening stanza.
The Yellow Jackets first goal was scored with less than 10 minutes showing on the clock, as Field scored his fourth goal of the season after receiving a pass from both Campanale and defensemen
Mike Little (Enfield, Conn.). Campanale gave the squad a 2-1 lead ripping a shot past Huskies' netminder Jon Grant, who made 24 stops. His score was assisted by Field and
David Turco (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).
From there, AIC held tight to a one goal lead heading into the third period. In the final frame, Chris Spicer scored with just over 13 minutes showing on the clock, nodding the score at two goals each. Following the Spicer goal, Charles Solberg flipped in a score off a rebound with under eight minutes to go, giving UConn a 3-2 lead.
With the one goal deficit, AIC pulled Ramirez in the final minute for an extra attacker, but UConn's Jason Krispel filled the empty net to seal the victory.
The two squads will conclude their home-and-home series Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The contest marks the final home game for AIC, as the last two regular season games will be player in Colorado against the Air Force Falcons.
