Army Blanks AIC 4-0

Box Score

West Point, N.Y. - Despite 38 saves from freshman goalie Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.) the AIC hockey team fell 4-0 to the red hot Army Black Knights in an Atlantic Hockey contest Friday evening at the Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y. The Yellow Jackets fall to 8-17-4 overall and 8-13-2 in the AHA while the Black Knights improve to 13-12-4 overall and 13-7-3 in the conference. The win moves Army ahead of RIT for first place in the Atlantic Hockey standings.

AIC ran into one of the hottest goalies in the country in junior Josh Kassel who in an eight game span is 7-0-1 with three shut outs. It marks only the second time this season the Yellow Jackets have been blanked, dating back to a December 8th game against then conference leader RIT. The Black Knights haven't lost since a January 18th meeting with Canisius, improving to 7-0-1 in their last eight contests.

After a scoreless first, Army earned the contest's first goal at the 12:15 marker. Zach McKelvie hammered a slap-shot from right in front of the blue-line that snuck through the defense and into the net. The Black Knights scored again less than two minutes later, when Joey Ammon flipped the puck through crease following a flurry of shots, making the score 2-0 in favor of Army.

Army pushed their lead to three goals eight minutes into the final frame when Robb Ross lofted a wrist-shot into the corner of the net from a tough angle on the side of the goal. With time expiring in the third period, Owen Meyer put the finishing touches on the victory, flicking a wrist-shot past Ramirez's shoulder as the buzzer sounded.

The teams will conclude the home-in-home series tomorrow afternoon at 3:05 pm in West Springfield.
