Chad Richardson (Regina, Sask.) scored two goals while freshman
Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.) turned back 43 shots, as the American International College Yellow Jackets earned their first ever road win against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers 3-1, in an Atlantic Hockey contest Friday evening at the Ritter Ice Arena in Rochester, N.Y. The win propels AIC to 6-15-4 overall and 6-11-2 in the AHA. The loss bumps the Tigers to 12-10-4 overall and 10-7-4 in the conference.
Ramirez, a native of Rochester, was under a minute away from his first career shutout. He stopped an amazing 43 of 44 shots with the only goal coming off of an RIT power-play in the third frame.
Sophomore defenseman
Frankie DeAngelis (Woodbridge, Ont.) started the scoring off for the Yellow Jackets tailing a goal at the 5:10 mark of the first-period. The squad's first score was assisted by first-line attackers
Mike McMillan (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and
Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ont.).
With a 1-0 lead, AIC added another score with less than three minutes on the board in the first-frame. Richardson, who scored in the first and last stanzas found the back of the net at the 17:42 marker, with assists given to seniors
Mark Pavli (Sarnia, Ont.) and
Bryan Jurynec (Orland Park, Ill.)
The Jackets, who were outshot 18-7 in the second period, used 18 saves from Ramirez, whose 43 stops on the night were a career-high.
In the third, Richardson put the game out of reach grabbing his second goal of the game five minutes into the period, again assisted by Jurynec and Pavli.
RIT's lone goal was scored with only 54 ticks on the clock, by the conferences second leading scorer Simon Lambert. It wasn't enough, as AIC held on for their first road victory over the Tigers in the series history.
The two teams will meet for the final time in the regular season tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
