Men's Ice Hockey Drops Weekend Finale to Army, 3-1

West Point, N.Y. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost to Army 3-1 on Saturday night at Tate Rink. With the loss the Yellow Jackets record falls to 1-7-0 this season and to 1-5-0 in the AHA, while the win improves the Blacks Knights record 2-4-1 for the season and to 2-3-1 in the conference. Sophomore #Tom Mele# (Bronx, N.Y.) netted his second goal of the season.

After a scoreless first period, senior Zach McKelvie (New Brighton, Minn.) broke the 0-0 tie for Army, as he scored his first goal of the season with assists from freshmen Bryant Skarda (Lake Elmo, Minn.) and Mike Hull (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead. Army took a 2-0 advantage when junior Eric Sefchik (Brooklyn, Ohio) found the back of the net for the first time this season. He was assisted by classmate Owen Meyer (Dundee, Ill.).

The Yellow Jackets came out in the third period looking to make a comeback as Mele scored just 1:43 into the period to make the game 2-1. He was assisted by senior #David Turco# (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and junior #Chris Campanale# (Chester Springs, Pa.). The AIC comeback attempt was short lived as Meyer found the back of the net giving Army a 3-1 lead, with an assist from sophomore Cody Omilusik (Traverse City, Mich.).

Senior #Tom Fenton# (Sarnia, Ont.) made 35 saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets, while his counterpart, classmate Josh Kassel (Greensburg, Pa.) recorded 24 stops in the win for the Black Knights.

AIC was outshot 38-25, and 14-6 in the second period.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets take on Atlantic Hockey foe Sacred Heart in a weekend series starting on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
