Ice Hockey Set to Take on Bentley Tonight

SETTING THE SCENE: Tonight's contest is between the host Falcons of Bentley University and the Yellow Jackets of American International College.

ABOUT AIC: AIC enters tonight's competition with a record of 3-9-0 for the season and are 3-7-0 in Atlantic Hockey play after splitting a weekend home-and-home with Holy Cross. In the first game, the Yellow Jackets pulled out their third straight home victory, beating the Crusaders 5-1. Senior Chad Richardson opened the scoring as he found the back of the net just three minutes into the first period, with assists from sophomore Steve McLeod and freshman Nielsson Arcibal. AIC increased its lead to 2-0 just 35-seconds later when Rody Selk netted his second goal of the season with assists from junior Mike McMillan and freshman Luciano Primiani. After entering the first intermission up 2-0, Arcibal gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead as he tallied his second goal of the season at the 7:09 mark in the second period. Richardson and junior Frankie DeAngelis dished out the assists on Arcibal's goal. Holy Cross tallied their only goal of the game just eight seconds later when sophomore Joe Brock found the back of the net, making the game 3-1. McLeod gave AIC their three goal lead back when he recorded his first goal of the season with assists from junior Chris Campanale and Primiani. The Yellow Jackets entered the second intermission with a 4-1 lead. In the third period, senior Matt Woodard capped off the victory as he scored, unassisted, on an empty net goal which was AIC's first shorthanded goal of the season. It was also Woodard's first goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets killed off all seven of the Crusaders power play opportunities. In the weekend finale, AIC fell 3-0 at the Hart Center. The Yellow Jackets played well but allowed a goal in every period. Holy Cross went up 1-0 when sophomore J.P. Martignetti found the back of the net with assists from freshmen Andrew Cox and Luke Miller. Sophomore Everett Sheen increased the Crusader lead to 2-0 when he scored at the 16:34 mark in the second period. Senior Marty Dams and junior Brodie Sheahan had the assists on Sheen's goal. Holy Cross sealed the victory when freshman Jay Silvia scored unassisted with 1:37 left in the game. Senior Tom Fenton recorded 20 saves in the loss for AIC, while his counterpart, sophomore Adam Roy made 17 stops to record the shutout and victory.

ABOUT BENTLEY: Bentley enters tonight's game with a record of 5-4-1 for the season and are 4-2-1 in the conference after sweeping Canisius last weekend. In their first game, the Falcons recorded a 4-3 victory over the Golden Griffins. Canisius got on the board first as sophomore Vincent Scarsella found the back of the net late in the first period, but Bentley came out shooting in the second period as they scored three times. Junior Brendan Harrison tied the game for the Falcons as he found the back of the net with an assist from classmate Justin Kemmerer. Bentley took a 2-1 lead when freshman Herbie Kent scored at the 15:12 mark in the period. Senior Dain Prewitt gave the Falcons a two goal lead as he tallied his fourth goal of the season, with an assist from classmate Casey Russell. The Golden Griffins attempted the comeback as they scored twice in the first half of the third period to tie the game at 3-3, but Bentley sophomore Dustin Cloutier netted the game-winning goal with 2:51 second left on the clock. Netminder, sophomore Joe Calvi stopped 18 shots to record the victory for the Falcons. In the weekend finale, Bentley notched four more goals to complete the weekend series sweep, beating Canisius 4-2. Senior Jeff Gumaer put the Falcons up 1-0 as he scored early in the first period. After the first intermission, Prewitt gave Bentley a 3-0 lead as he scored back-to-back goals, his fifth and sixth of the season. With a 3-0 lead entering the third period, Cloutier put the game out of reach as he found the back of the net to give Bentley a 4-0 lead. The Golden Griffins scored twice, late in the third period but there was just not enough time left to complete a comeback. Freshman Kyle Rank made 26 saves to record the victory.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET: The Yellow Jackets swept the Falcons in a weekend home-and-home on February 8th and 9th. In the first game, AIC recorded a 5-2 victory, as they received goals from DeAngelis, Bryan Jurynec, Mark Pavli, Greg Genovese, and sophomore Tom Mele. Ramirez made 20 saves in the win. In the second game, the Yellow Jackets completed the sweep as they beat Bentley 6-5. Jereme Tendler scored twice, Chris Bolognino, senior David Turco, Mike Field, and Genovese each scored once. Ramirez tallied 26 stops in the victory.

NEXT UP: AIC takes on Mercryhurst in a weekend series starting on December 5th at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
