Ice Hockey Falls to Sacred Heart 4-0

Milford, Conn. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost the weekend finale 4-0 to Sacred Heart on Saturday night. With the loss the Yellow Jackets record falls to 2-8-0 for the season and to 2-6-0 in Atlantic Hockey, while the win improves the Pioneers record 2-5-2 overall and to 2-4-2 in the conference. Sophomore #Dan Ramirez# (Rochester, N.Y.) made 29 stops in the loss.

Senior Eric Giosa (Detriot, Mich.) put Sacred Heart on the score board first when he found the back of the net just
18-seconds into the first period with assists from classmate Bear Trapp (Balcarres, Sask.) and Ryan Miniaci (Monroe, Conn.). At the end of the first period, the Pioneers led 1-0, but would add three goals in the second period to put the game out of reach for AIC. Freshman Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, Man.) gave Sacred Heart a 2-0 led just 56-seconds into the second period when he scored with assists from senior Kyle Tyll (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Dave Grimson (Mozart, Sask.). The Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 as sophomore Chris Brown (Sherrills Ford, N.C.) tallied their second goal of the period. Junior Corey Laurysen (Ottawa, Ont.) scored the fourth and final goal for Sacred Heart giving them a 4-0 lead at the end of the second period.

Sophomore Oliver St. Onge (Wickham, Que.) stopped 19 shots to preserve the shutout and victory.

The Yellow Jackets were outshot 33-19.

Next up, AIC takes on AHA foe Holy Cross in a weekend home-and-home series starting on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
