Ice Hockey Falls to Canisius 4-1 in Weekend Series Finale

West Springfield, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost to Cansius by a score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Olympia Ice Center. With the loss the Yellow Jackets record now falls to 0-6-0 on the season and to 0-4-0 in Atlantic Hockey, while the win improves the Golden Griffens record to 3-2-2 on the year and to 2-1-1 in the conference. Sophomore goaltender #Dan Ramirez# (Rochester, N.Y.) made 28 saves in the loss for AIC.

Canisius struck first when junior Josh Heidinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) found the back of the net with 7:15 left in the first period. Assisting on Heidinger's goal were classmates Jason Weeks (Seattle, Wash.) and Dave Cianfrini (Dundas, Ont.). The Golden Griffins pushed their lead to 2-0 when freshman Dave Kostuch (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored with 6:20 left in the second period with assists from Heidinger and Weeks. Heidinger added two more goals, one in the second period and one in the third, for Canisius giving him the hat trick.

Freshman #Michael Penny# (Calgary, Alb.) scored the Yellow Jackets lone goal of the game; it was his fourth goal on the season. Junior #Mike McMillan# (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and freshman #Nielsson Arcibal# (Vista, Calif.) had the assists on Penny's goal.

Freshman Dan Morrison (London, Ont.) had 32 saves in the win for the Golden Griffins.

AIC outshot Canisius 33-32 and 12-8 in the third period.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets take on Army on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
