Erie, Pa. - Mike McMillan scored his team leading seventh goal of the season but the American International College ice hockey squad dropped a 5-4 contest on the road to Atlantic Hockey foe Mercyhurst College Friday evening. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 4-10-2 overall and 4-8-1 in the AHA while the win propels the Lakers to 4-11-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the AHA.

Brett Robinson and Mike Gurtler scored the first two goals of the game, within two minutes of each other, in the first frame, putting the Lakers up 2-0 before T.J. Smith scored his second goal of the season on the power-play 20 seconds before the first stanza came to its conclusion, making the score 2-1 going into the second period.

Chad Richardson nodded the game at two in the second period scoring a goal on a Keith Rodger and Mike Pavli assist at the 3:38 mark. For Pavli, it was the second of three points on the evening as he assisted on the first and last goal for the Yellow Jackets.

At the 7:15 point in the second frame Dan Bremner make it a 3-2 contest after scoring a goal on a pass from Neil Graham.

Freshman Steve McLeod quickly tied the game up under a minute later ripping a goal off of a Jereme Tendler and Chris Bolognino assist.

Mike Gurtler notched another score before Steve Cameron made it a 5-3 game in favor of the Lakers going into the third in final period.

Mike McMillan made it interesting in the third period scoring a goal that made it 5-4, but the Yellow Jackets were unable to earn the equalizer as they fell 5-4.

The two squads will conclude the weekend series Saturday with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m.
