Army Downs AIC

Box Score

West Point, N.Y. - The Black Knights scored less than one minute into the game and never looked back, downing the American International College Yellow Jackets' 7-1 in an Atlantic Hockey Association contest Saturday evening at the Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y.

Army front-liner Owen Meyer scored twice in the first-frame. Just 48 ticks into the first-stanza he slipped past an unorganized Jacket defense and made the most out of a one-on-one with AIC goalie Tom Fenton (Sarnia, Ont.), hesitating to the forehand, before flicking a backhander past Fenton's glove.

Meyer struck again 12 minutes later. Army defender Chris Blair found himself in a two-on-one with Fenton and Meyer, faking a shot, before dishing it to Meyer for the one-timer score.

The Black Knights out shot AIC 13-7 in the first-period. Fenton was constantly tested, turning away 10 shots.

Army scored once more to end the first stage of the match-up. Defender Chris Colvin swung up the ice, and ripped a tenacious slap-shot through Fenton's five-hole, making the score 3-0.

Meyer earned a hat-trick nine minutes into the second tossing a hard, well placed wrist-shot past Fenton's glove from outside of the circle. Army had clear shooting lanes all night long.

Freshman Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ont.) tallied his first collegiate goal with eight minutes showing on the clock in the third-period to get the Jackets' on the board. McLeod finished a barrage of Yellow Jacket shot attempts from right in front of the net.

Army answered right back less than 30 seconds later when Aaron Anderson notched his first goal of the season tipping home a shot attempt from Will Ryan who skated in all alone and was initially rejected by Fenton.

Army forward Robb Ross added to the offensive onslaught, stroking a one-timer past Fenton a minute and a half after the Anderson score. Ken Rowe dished the puck to Ross, who put the sixth goal of the game on the board for the Black Knights. The Black Knights added one more score to complete their third win in conference play.

AIC will host Canisius next Friday and Saturday starting at 7:05 pm.
