SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Freshman Ricardo Martinez (Valencia, Spain) recorded his first collegiate victory in second singles, but it was not enough as the American International College men's tennis squad dropped an 8-1 decision to Franklin Pierce University this afternoon.
Martinez and senior James Worrall (Epsom, England) nearly pulled off first doubles, however, they dropped a tough 8-9 (7-9) tie-breaker match to open the day.
Fellow freshman Luis Gouveia (Cabo Frio, Brazil) and sophomore Johno May (Mahtomedi, Minn.) played well in second doubles ultimately falling 8-2 and senior Michael Schulze (Ehningen, Baden-Wuertteunberg) played tough in the second set of fifth singles losing 6-3 after a 6-0 first set.
AIC falls to 0-3 on the year and in the NE-10 while the Ravens improve to 4-9 and secure their first conference victory moving to 1-3.
The next match for the Jackets takes place on Tuesday as they travel to Stonehill.
